It had been two long weeks since Haruhi saw Kyon, or rather, the brigade as a whole.
However, on the last day of summer vacation as second year students, Haruhi decided that maybe she should be a little daring and do something to surprise her menial tasks guy. Of course, she knew that he wouldn't expect a thing, especially when it was something that was surely going to be unexpected.
So she decided to call him up. He was number two (she wanted to make him number one, but that number was reserved for voicemail) on her speed dial and she waited for him to pick up, but didn't wait long enough for him to actually speak up.
That's when she started speaking, her voice serious.
"Kyon. You better stay at home; I'm coming over there and if you leave by the time I show up, your head will roll. Got it?"
And she hung up after that ominous message, deciding that if she were really going to do the things that she had planned, she would have to dress up for it. Which is why when she does show up at Kyon's doorstep, she's wearing a sleek, black dress that's shorter than any of Mikuru's outfits - especially the waitress outfit - and a bag was worn over her shoulder, packed with various things that she would use for today's... activity.
