[ Even though it seemed like an ordinary day, it most certainly wasn't. Sure, Haruhi had asked Kyon to join her for another one of those "searching the city for anything supernatural", but the only reason why it was Kyon alone was because the others were either sick or busy.
Unfortunately for Kyon and Haruhi, they don't realize the fact that something has most definitely changed.
Like the fact that Haruhi is now able to do the following: read Kyon's mind, see his thoughts (especially if he's fantasizing something real perverted), and feel his emotions (at least, the ones that he doesn't show on his face). ]
